Carol Dunk

When she retired, Carol had time to spend on her favourite pastime, gardening. She became a member of Simcoe County Master Gardeners in 1999. She often speaks at local horticultural groups about her gardening experiences, gardening ideas, soil care and reduction of pesticides. She was a seminar speaker at Ontario Horticultural Association Convention in 2003 and 2004. In 2004, She was also one of the plenary speakers at the OHA Convention. For two years, she did noon-hour sessions on a local television channel and from those shows became known around Simcoe County as Master Gardener Grandma Dunk!

She is past-president of Barrie’s Garden Club and published the monthly newsletter for that group for 6 years. Currently she is the Director for OHA District 16. She is also a Master Gardener and belongs to Simcoe County Master Gardeners. Currently she is the Chair of the Education Committee of Master Gardeners of Ontario.

Pesticides: Who Needs Em?
This presentation gives gardeners techniques and information for gardening without the use of synthetic chemicals to control pests and diseases. Among other things, the talk includes reasons for plant stress, Integrated Pest Management and turf reduction. The talk is a light-hearted approach to gardening in the new reality of pesticide bans.
